Peter Island, the largest private isle in the British Virgin Islands
Last Update
Dec 12, 2023
Peter Island, the largest private isle in the British Virgin Islands, is a 1,800 acre sanctuary where only 300 acres host the luxurious Peter Island Resort & Spa featuring 52 rooms, suites, and exclusive villas nestled amid lush tropical hills and five pristine beaches, including Honeymoon, White Bay, and the crescent‑shaped Deadman’s Bay. After its grand reopening in December 2024 following years of restoration from Hurricane Irma the resort blends its storied past with modern elegance, offering ocean‑front accommodations with private hot tubs, an eco‑friendly spa with cliffside pools, and dining at The Drake and The Drunken Pelican. Here, guests drift between snorkeling along coral reefs, hiking hidden forest trails to spot baby goats, soaking in seaside sunsets at the Yacht Club, or simply basking in the soft powder white sands, all in blissful seclusion, yet with the warm hospitality and gourmet flair that make Peter Island a timeless Caribbean escape.
Travel Tip
We planned our visit to Peter Island in February and it was a phenomenal choice. It's right in the heart of the dry season, offering ideal island weather with warm days around 26–29 °C (mid‑80s °F), minimal rainfall, and refreshing trade winds. Unlike the busier December to March peak, February strikes a perfect balance: still lively but with fewer crowds and often better availability and rates.
You'll have to take a boat to get to Peter Island. We came from St.Thomas and booked a private water taxi through Dolphin. Because you are coming from the USVI to the BVI, you'll have to have your passport and go through customs.
